The koan way is made up of relationships, exchanges, confrontations, gifts, life-giving thefts, unexpected mercies, and generosity. Energy flows, swirls, and sometimes is perfectly still, but if it's alive, it's never stagnant. One form this takes is the way we requite generosity with generosity : by announcing our commitment to the way, and our willingness to put our resources—our time, energy, skill, and money—where our commitment is.
